Larry Janesky: From Carpenter to Builder of Leaders

The Story Behind the Founder of the SOE Trades Leadership Program

It Started With a Toolbox and a Pickup Truck

At 17 years old, Larry Janesky had no college degree, no business plan, and no safety net. What he had was a willingness to work, a desire to learn, and the belief that if he kept showing up, he could build something meaningful.

He started as a carpenter, framing houses in Connecticut. By 20, he had started his own contracting business. By 30, he had built it into one of the most respected home improvement companies in the Northeast. Today, that company generates over $50 million in annual revenue, holds 31 patents, and employs hundreds of people.

The Highest Calling by Larry Janesky

Basement Systems and Beyond

Larry didn't just build homes. He built systems. He developed repeatable processes that transformed how contracting businesses operate, from sales and marketing to production and customer service.

His company, Basement Systems, became a national leader in waterproofing, foundation repair, and crawl space encapsulation. But Larry's real innovation wasn't a product. It was a way of thinking about business that put leadership, systems, and people first.

Get The Highest Calling

Contractor Nation

In 1990, Larry founded Contractor Nation, a community and support system for contractors across the country. Through coaching, training, and events, he has helped hundreds of business owners build stronger companies, better teams, and more profitable operations.

Contractor Nation became the proving ground for what Larry would eventually bring to the next generation: the idea that anyone can build something great if they are willing to learn, lead, and never quit.

Training the Next Generation

After decades of building businesses and coaching contractors, Larry saw a deeper problem: there was no program designed to train the next generation of leaders in the trades. Trade schools taught the skill. Colleges taught the theory. But nobody was teaching young people how to lead, manage, and own.

“You can't change a kid's destination overnight, but you can change their direction in a couple of minutes.”

More Than a Founder

Larry isn't just the name behind the program. He is an active mentor who invests over 100 hours annually in direct coaching and curriculum development. He reviews every module, attends events, and personally engages with students who are building their futures.

His philosophy is simple: learn everything you can, apply it every day, and never stop growing. That philosophy is woven into every lesson, every coaching session, and every interaction within the SOE program.
